| A room with good acoustics is essential to recording and mixing your music correctly. "Good acoustics" can be defined as getting the sound from the speakers to your ears as unchanged as possible. A good home studio room should be as neutral as possible while still having some life to enable you to hear detail (such as stereo positioning) properly. This ensures that music you have mixed and equalised to sound good has the best chance of sounding good in other rooms. Dry Gin recorded using a studio built in his apartment. It is very difficult to record acoustic parts in a home studio. Even if you're lucky enough to have a large, good sounding room to record in, you will also need thousands of dollars' worth of microphones, preamps, and processors to achieve optimum sound quality. Because of this, most people use digital machines in their home studios. If you insist on recording live sound, it's a better bargain to rent a good studio for a few hours. That way you get acces to a bunch of good equipment and the ambience of the room. Remember, talent, energy and ideas override technology. If you have the technology, use it. But if you haven't got the cash, don't worry. * * * Dry Gin * * * |
